Wisdom from Imam Abu Hanifa

Imam Abu Hanifa (d. 150H) said:


  1. “Connect with those who have forsaken you.” (p. 47)

  2. “Honour those who come to you.” (p. 48)

  3. “Pardon those who have wronged you.” (p. 49)

  4. “Whoever speaks ill of you, say beautiful things about them.” (p. 50)

  5. “If someone has a joyful occasion, congratulate them.” (p. 52)

  6. “If someone has a difficulty, console them.” (p. 53)

  7. “Show love to the people as much as you can.” (p. 58)

  8. “Spread salam even to those people who happen to be wicked.” (p. 59)

  9. “Don’t betray even if someone betrays you.” (p. 68)

  10. “Fulfil the trust even with those who have cheated you.” (p. 69)

  11. “Keep to piety (taqwa).” (p. 71)

  12. “Be with Allah inwardly just as you are with Him outwardly.” (p. 81)

  13. “If you notice [a mistake] of your neighbour, conceal it for him as it is a trust.” (p. 91)

  14. “Don’t reveal the secrets of people.” (p. 92)

  15. “Whoever consults you in a matter, direct him to whatever you think will bring you closer to Allah.” (p. 93)

  16. “Don’t be stingy as [stinginess] makes a person hated.” (p. 94)

  17. “Seek forgiveness for [your] teacher and whoever you took knowledge from.” (p. 104)

  18. “Persist on good so that you may benefit from your knowledge in this life and the next.” (p. 107)

  19. “Degrade the worldly life [in your eyes] just as it is insignificant to the people of knowledge because what Allah has in store is surely better than it.” (p. 117)

  20. “Don’t become a storyteller for the masses as a storyteller has to lie.” (p. 119)
